SAMPLES OF WORK
Check this page out as we will be changing what’s on it regularly.
Click on the link below to read the poetry we wrote about Climate Change. Over 20 of them have been published in Little Laureate’s Big Green Poetry Book.
WORLD WAR TWO POETRY
The children have looked at poetry written by a child and an adult who were in the Terazin Concentration Camp. They have also looked at the poem Dulce et Decorum Est by the World War One poet Wilfred Owen. Based on what we have been learning in class and the visit of Mr. Manning last week, the children were encouraged to think about what they might have seen, heard, smelt or felt. They then thought about similes and metaphors they could use to make their poems more interesting.
Here are some of their poems all under the title AIR RAID:
by Matthew Pascoe
The air raid siren has just gone off
Everybody’s running, screaming
I’m so scared
I wet myself
The bombs sound like a blackboard being scratched
I am so scared
I can’t move
Suddenly I’m whisked off
And carried to a shelter
Is it over?
by Megan and Lucy
THE AIR RAID
People running like lost cheetahs,
Bombs falling like drowning mice.
The blackout was like a bat’s wing,
Smoke as dark as an elephant’s skin.
The smell of the fire was like camel’s breath,
The screams of people like crabs being boiled.
That was the air raid,
When will it end?
by Oliver
The air raid goes off
every body screams
people run to the air raid shelter
I just lie down
I see bits of houses coming off
and smoke like a swarm off bees
there are people putting gas masks on
little do they know what’s in them
the bombs whistle through the air
I give up lying down
but suddenly … a bomb
I’m gone!
